EAvWisely 031 - Embrace Superstition

Embrace Superstition

The fear of Friday the 13th is called friggatriskaidekaphobia and let me be the first to say, that’s a friggin’ hard word to spell, let alone pronounce. Much like the last name of Empire Avenue CEO and semi-professional couch surfing champion Duleepa “Dups’ Wijayawardhana (e)DUPS.

Now, in most parts of the world, Friday the 13th is synonymous with bad luck or that one movie where those teenagers definitely kill that dude wearing the mask (Awesome flick. Somebody should make a sequel.) However, on Empire Avenue, Friday the 13th means only one thing — Secret Achievement time!

In any given year, Friday the 13th appears on the calendar at least once, but no more than 3 times. This year, it only happens once. Your next opportunity to unlock this achievement won’t roll around again until January 2012. It’s now or never if you want to snag this rare gem. Let’s get started, shall we?

Empire Avenue Daily Wisdom 028 - Status Update

Update Your Status.
Over the weekend, I engaged in a little Empire Avenue Portfolio “Spring Cleaning.” I hadn’t sold anyone in, oh, I don’t know, 6 or 7 months, and let’s just say I was carrying around a lot of dead weight. Something drastic needed to be done. My goal: Trim my portfolio from around 750 players down to a number in the 500 neighborhood.

Empire Avenue Wisdom 021 - Think

Think before you tweet. Think before you buy. Think before you tweet what you buy.

When you buy shares of someone, Empire Avenue allows you to share the news of your investment with the world via a an auto tweet at the time of purchase — something which, for the purposes of this post, I’m going to call an “Investment Tweet

To prevent this feature from becoming an abusive and endless stream of twitter spam, you are limited to six of these tweets each day. Some would argue that even six is too many, but that’s a topic for another day.

If you do tweet your purchases, have you given any intentional thought to how you employ this feature most effectively? Are you achieving the maximum return with these 140 character morsels of Empire Avenue activity bits? What follows are 10 strategies for achieving maximum return from auto-tweeting your investments on Empire Avenue.

Seriously?!?

“Surely, you must be joking?”
“I never joke, and don’t call me Shirley!”

Ted Striker (Robert Hays) and Dr. Rumack (Leslie Nielsen) in the 1939 Oscar-winning  epic tale of love, romance, red things and things that hold back water in the Old South during the Civil War and Reconstruction, “Gone with the Wind.”

Nearly a century ago, when I first started this blog (or as erudite playwright and day-old coleslaw connoisseur, Luke Nyland, would put it “locationally bereft conglomerate of thematically destituted amalgamates”), I had one thing in mind — French Fries. Golden, crispy, pipin’ hot french fries. And deep fried Twinkies with a raspberry drizzle. Okay, you caught me. Two things.

I also held the desire to use this platform for the greater good. That of the Empire Avenue Community, and that of the world at large. It is my firm belief that You, personally, can be the catalyst for positive, limitless, earth-shattering change. I planned to use this intangible corner of ether to provide helpful hints to successfully navigate the highways and byways Empire Avenue as well as to spark a desire amongst others to use our combined influence and creativity to impact the world around us in lasting, positive ways.
